Kensom Community Advancement Organisation recently participated in a high-level conference organized by UN Women, focused on advancing gender equality and inclusion in the public sector.
Held at Mwingi Parl, Kitui County, the conference brought together representatives from government institutions, civil society organizations, gender advocates, and community leaders from across the region.

As a grassroots partner in this initiative, Kensom actively contributed to the discussions by sharing insights into the challenges and opportunities around gender equity in local governance, especially in underserved communities.
The conference covered:
- Gender-responsive policymaking
- Representation of women in leadership
- Barriers to inclusion in public service
- Strategies for enhancing gender equity at the county level
Kensom reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive development and ensuring that all voices—especially women and youth—are heard and empowered through advocacy and community engagement.
“True inclusion begins at the grassroots. It’s essential that local communities are not only heard but involved in shaping policies that affect them,” said a Kensom representative during the panel discussion.

Kensom extends its appreciation to UN Women for convening this impactful and collaborative platform and looks forward to continued engagement in advancing gender justice across Kenya.
